TeamViewer is the most known remote desktop, remote control, and remote support software with a user-friendly interface and wide compatibility it works not. In this article, I'll explain how to use the Remmina client to connect remotely from a Linux computer to a Windows 10 system and a Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 system. Like the Remote Desktop Role, there are many options available with. It's written in GTK+ and is open source under the GNU GPL license. The Remote Desktop Client is used to connect to a system running Remote Desktop Services. I use Remmina because I like its minimal, easy-to-use user interface (UI). These connections are made using remote desktop connection software, and there are many options available. Remote desktops are also used to help customers solve computer problems: with the customer's permission, you can establish a VNC or Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) connection to see or interactively access the computer to troubleshoot or repair the problem. The use of this software is really within everyone’s reach, making it a perfect solution for both remote assistance and home working. For example, the ManageIQ/Integration tests repository's pull request (PR) testing system exposes a Virtual Network Computing (VNC) connection port so I can remotely view my PRs being tested in real time. The software is free for non-professional use, very light to run, and requires no installation or configuration: just download it from the site and launch the file. In other words, a remote desktop is used to access an environment running on another computer. A remote desktop, according to Wikipedia, is "a software or operating system feature that allows a personal computer's desktop environment to be run remotely on one system (usually a PC, but the concept applies equally to a server), while being displayed on a separate client device." ![]()

The cemetery was profoundly isolated at the dead end of Tucker Road, and ideal for nefarious activities because there was only one way in and you could see headlights coming if the sheriff was on his way. The popularity of Mary Jane’s grave blossomed in no small part because the term “Mary Jane” was a hippie era code word for marijuana. Youngsters from the youth camp grew up to be teenagers in their parents’ cars, and they all knew that a dead-end road was a perfect hangout for smoking dope in the hazy drug-blurred days of the ’60s-’70s. The legend sprouted roots almost immediately. Once the camp had an actual graveyard on its premises, a likely headstone was selected for a ghost story about a witch, and Mary Jane’s Grave began its strange rise to fame. There was no cemetery at the original site, so they improvised (as reported in this column from 1953.) Their annual Halloween-in-July activities originated at the camp’s first location, today Happy Hollow Camp on Hull Road. No one paid any particular attention to the grave of Mary Jane Hendrickson until 1960 when the Friendly House moved their Hidden Hollow Camp to Possum Run Road, and in the process acquired the Mt. Who could have imagined in 1960 what the seed of that party-game would sprout into by the ’70s, and what a bizarre, thorny and poisonous vine would emerge through the 2000s to choke the life out of a once-lovely peaceful country bone yard. It was so popular the spook hike became a yearly, and then a weekly event at camp for thousands of youngsters through the ensuing decades. It all began so simply, as harmless fun for a Halloween-in-July theme day activity, when kids took a spooky hike through the nighttime forest to a haunted graveyard. The tale concluded with a cautionary curse intended to protect the tree and her grave from mischievous trespassers. The fictional campfire tale recounted at Hidden Hollow told of Mary Jane abusing her evil powers until the neighbors finally rose up against her and hung her in the cemetery from a mighty pine. The only reason the tremendously dark aura coalesced about her name is because in the summer of 1960 a camp counselor at Hidden Hollow Camp nearby looked around the graveyard for a stone upon which to hang a story, and chose the humble headstone under a big old spruce marked Mary Jane as a suitable landmark for a witch story, to give young campers the creeps. Her headstone stone, long since diappeared, read: She was membered of the Evangelical Association, and passed away quietly from the effects of cancer. ![]() Mary Jane Hendrickson, one of nine children, had relatives in Hastings, and spent a large part of her life in the area as a maiden aunt. Olive Cemetery is situated about halfway between two villages that no longer exist: Hastings and Newville. She was somebody’s sweet old aunt who died of cancer in 1898. There isn’t a great deal known about her because there wasn’t hardly anything in her life to distinguish her from any other of the farm women of the Monroe Township countryside around Hastings. That’s actually an apt analogy of the story of Mary Jane’s Grave-because all the elements of the tale rage around the periphery, and the unfolding of the troubled history is all about everything except what’s at the very core: Mary Jane herself.īecause she was most certainly not burned as a witch, nor did she take to her grave a life story any more malevolent than that which the trials of life bring to any other hapless soul in the graveyard. If you picture a storm-dark and destructive and vaguely sinister-it is easy to impute this evil force as emanating from Mary Jane’s Grave but if you do, then you also have to picture the eye of the storm: where all is peaceful, still and, comparatively speaking, rather boring. ![]() The history of her graveyard is much like a whirlwind that starts innocently enough as a summer breeze only to take on unexpected strength and gain unruly power to threaten the landscape as a raging and destructive twister. It might have been appropriate if the scarred old tree had been taken out by a fierce storm: there would have been a certain kind of poetry in that. The end of an era came at Mary Jane’s Grave in the fall of 2014 when the huge and famous spruce that marked her resting place sadly crashed down among the stones. ![]() ![]() Yes, this is the new trend: urban agriculture in private houses and apartments. ![]() Besides, many houses and apartments have automatic watering of home plants, and the humidity sensors give a signal to the Smart Day system to water the plant when necessary. In comparison, in the USA, according to various estimates, almost every third house is equipped with such a system. In the Eastern Europe region, “smart home” is still something very futuristic. You get the idea now about the why you would use a Socks Proxy, I hope. Socks Proxy to Bypass IP based Limits Netflix won’t let you watch a movie while traveling? Set your IP to be from a US based computer and keep watching. The point is you can make your request come from anywhere in the world, effectively bypassing any network you desire. Instead of risking it, I might want to access wells fargo from a safer computer, like my vacation home in zimbabwe (kidding). The hardware to this task is only a few hundred bucks and you better believe that law enforcement has similar technology. Then my marks would log into their bank and I would fake the cert, intercept their request, give them a spoofed login page, collect their credentials and then empty their account. I would then use my MITM box and wait for people to connect. Many weak authentication methods can be protected this way (htbasic auth I’m looking at you) Socks Proxy for Secure Browsing If I were malicious, I might setup a free wifi near a hotel or coffee shop. You’ll get a “Forbidden” message because you are not accessing from the IP of the server. For example, go to the wp-admin section of this website. There is no network to traverse for the https request at this point as it originates on the server itself. Then I SSH to the server, and browse the admin area using my server IP instead of my client IP. ![]() This is done by using an Access Control List on apache to allow access to the protected area ONLY from itself. With MITM attacks becoming more prevalent and government spying, I would prefer to use a tunnel to access to connection instead. Secure Admin Area Logins If I am a road warrior and need to access a secure area, I might trust a simple https connection. Unless it also has access to the server and the network it resides on, they will not know what happens from that point. My ISP would still show a SSH connection to the server, but that’s it. With a socks proxy and the option to tunnel web traffic including DNS requests through the tunnel, everything will appear to come from the server, not my client. Furthermore, my ISP could read my DNS queries normally, so an encrypted connection would still show that I went to. A socks proxy uses the server I SSH into instead of my client IP. Socks Proxy for Anonymous Browsing Let’s say I wanted to browse Ruby Sash Consulting, but I didn’t want my IP address of my client to show up in the logs. Others will check the application headers to verify that your 443 traffic is actually https, and not ssh. Some firewalls allow port 80 or port 443 traffic but not port 22. Some firewalls also inspect traffic and will disallow ssh tunnels. Socks Proxy to Bypass Firewall If you are behind a firewall that doesn’t allow DNS or web browsing you can simply bypass it (assuming SSH IS allowed). Reasons to Use SSH Tunnel/Socks Proxyĭon’t count on a SSH Tunnel to bypass everything, but it has other uses too. The server will then relay any information you send it and connect to the final server like it came from your intermediary server instead of the client. One of the most common things to pass over an SSH Tunnel is web browsing data (SOCKs Proxy).īasically you will create a SSH Tunnel from your client to a remote server. You can create an encrypted channel, then pass data over that channel. This configuration (a) lets you access web pages over a secure SSH connection, and (b) with the permission of any organization you are at (either work, school, or other) lets you see web pages that might otherwise be blocked by Websense.SSH tunnels are like a poor man’s VPN. This page is the index to my tutorial on how to create an SSH tunnel using Putty, and then using that tunnel as a SOCKS proxy in Firefox. How to create an SSH tunnel using Putty, and then use that tunnel as a Firefox SOCKS proxy It turns out you can configure Firefox to use this SSH tunnel as a SOCKS proxy, and while you should NEVER do this at work yourself - unless you're willing to get fired as a consequence - this is also a great way to make your web browsing much safer at places like Starbucks, Panera Bread, or any other location with public WiFi access. ![]() After talking to their security people and not being able to get their Websense configuration changed, I eventually resorted to configuring Firefox to use an SSH tunnel I set up with Putty. ![]() Filtering methods (how to “remove” elements from a List)īack in the days when I worked as a consultant in customer's offices, I found myself blocked by their Websense server. How to add (append and prepend) elements to a List.Create a new List with initial elements. ![]() ![]() Does include links to apps by in the iTunes App Store. However, there is no game without gameplay, and this is where I feel Lost in Random unfortunately begins to falter. The world feels hand-crafted, scary, fun and original. This style is also incredibly detailed, nearly perfectly mimicking the look of stop-motion animation, albeit at a higher framerate. The style of the game itself is very clearly inspired by the works of Laika, Henry Sellick and Tim Burton, creating a nightmarish carnival that stimulates the senses. However, writing is only one part of the game, and the aesthetics also deserve immense credit for breathing life into Random. Random is itself a twisted dark fantasy nightmare of a place that is always captivating. Random is home to a unique series of locations such as Two-Town, a world with two towns stacked on top of the other, with the upside-down members of the down above directly mirroring the residents of the one below. However, the biggest accomplishment in the game’s writing is world-building. Standout characters such as See-more and Dicey make the journey all the more enjoyable, and there are several moments of great dialogue.
